Popular types of rolled steel
A steel coil is a finished metal product, such as a sheet or strip, that has been rolled and then coiled. It is formed by passing a continuous sheet of metal through a bobbin cutter. Products are divided into rolls of aluminum, stainless, cold-rolled and hot-rolled steel, carbon and galvanized steel, in accordance with the standards.
The finished steel coil is easy to reserve, transport and handle.
- Hot-rolled steel is produced from semi-finished products by rolling, annealing, crimping to a certain thickness. It has excellent properties such as high strength, high impact toughness and good weldability. Steel is supplied with a standard, so-called “black” finish or after etching and oiling. It is used for the production of pipes, steel doors, tanks or subjected to further processing.
- Cold rolled steel in coils is a higher quality finished product with a smoother surface. The raw material for its production is a high-quality hot-rolled product, which after pickling is subjected to continuous rolling, annealing, degreasing, etc. Because of the increased carbon content, cold-rolled steel coil is harder and stronger than hot-rolled steel coil. The material has better resistance to breaking under tension and deformation.
- Structural steel, the roll of which is suitable for many applications, belongs to a family of products with a guaranteed minimum level of strength and satisfactory ductility. Sheets of structural steel are well welded by all traditional methods. As a rule, when welding, these steel sheets do not require either preheating or subsequent annealing to relieve stress in the weld. In addition to their excellent mechanical properties, they also have very satisfactory elasticity values.
- A roll of sheet metal, galvanized either by the hot-dip method or by the electrolytic deposition method, is used in aggressive environments, for example, in the automotive industry or in the production of roofing materials.
Fields of application of rolled steel
Various parts and assemblies, equipment, car bodies, and household electrical appliances are produced from rolled steel. It is also used for the production of welded pipes, metal tiles, corrugated board, drainage pipes and ventilation systems. Rolled metal, the price of which is indicated in the price list, can be made to order according to the specified customer specifications.
In industrial settings, a large number of machines such as laser cutting machines, sheet bending presses, guillotine shears and other devices are used to process coiled steel.
